Music Preference and Seasonality

We are investigating whether the impact of seasonality on affect is exhibited in specific musical preferences and evoked emotions. The goal of this research is twofold. First, music arouses highly specific emotional responses in individuals. Therefore, an assay based on responses to music is likely to be more sensitive than conventional emotional probes. Second, if conclusive, this research may provide the basis for running this process in reverse and perhaps applications to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
